February Weekday Walk: Shenley
The day dawned brighter than could have been expected from some of the advance forecasts and a small group met at the car park at Shenley Park.
The walk provided a contrast of hedged footpaths, open areas through grassland with oak trees or across ploughed fields (not as bad as on the pre-walk the previous week!), quiet lanes, several small woods and a short section through Shenley village.
There were many good views particularly from Shenley Ridge over the Vale of St Albans. En route a couple of Second World War pill boxes were seen - apparently once forming part of the North London defence system together with other pill boxes and a massive antitank ditch.
At times the sun shone and it even felt warm but we didn't linger and got back in time for lunch, although only the Leader had a leisurely time reading the papers in the tea rooms! Maggy
