Picos de Europa, Green Spain
The Hotel Torrecerredo in the village of Arenas De Cabrales offers stunning views and was refurbished in 1992. Local specialties are on the menu. The Picos lie 20 km inland from the coast of northern Spain, a limestone massif sculpted into dramatic shapes by glacial action with deep gorges and green valleys. Its highest peak, Torre de Ceredo, is 2648 m and many other tops are above 2400 m. Brown bears, boars and wolves still survive in its remoter areas. Walking likely to be Grade D+. Our trip will be identical to the Exodus Picos Peaks and Gorges, but booking direct with the hotel will give us some great savings.

Perhaps the best walking within relatively easy driving distance. Castleton YHA has closed in the latest round of YHA cuts, but a new hostel is opening at the former Field Studies Centre at Losehill and we hope to be able to use this as our base.
