August Evening Walk: Redbournbury

The walk was all planned: a nice gentle 4.5 miles out of Redbourn, up over Redbourn Golf Course watching the evening golfers and admiring the view as we went. Then back down to Redbournbury Mill with a look at the old watermill and finally back into Redbourn for a drink and meal at the Cricketers pub.
Well that was the plan BUT the weather decided that it had enough of summer and, as people had been complaining that gardens needed watering, it was going to rain. Not that gentle rain of summer where it is pleasure to walk on a walk warm evening but a downpour with floods being forecast!
In view of the weather Paul and I did not have a great number signed up - only six - but we were prepared to don waterproofs and go out. However,  at 5.00pm when I was searching out all my wet weather gear, the first of the evening contingent telephoned to say that it was a bit wet and they preferred to stay dry. This was rapidly followed by the other people and we all agreed that indoors was going to be a better place to stay.
So gratefully I must say, I am sitting in the dry typing up this report of the 'walk' that never was. Anna and Paul
