May Evening Walk: Colne Valley
The first of this season's evening walks coincided with the first perfect spring day. Setting off from Moor Mill, Bricketwood, we walked north towards Frogmore and Park Street passing beside lakes and the River Ver. Throughout the walk we were bombarded by the scents of spring... the wild flowers, may and hawthorn blossom and were also delighted to hear the cuckoo, the first of the season for most of us.
Turning south we passed the site of a Roman villa before crossing the M25 and back into rural Bricketwood. Skirting the grounds of the former home of Lady Yule we took a short diversion to admire the azaleas and exotic trees in the Japanese garden, now part of the HSBC estate.
At the confluence of the Rivers Ver and Colne we continued across fields to Netherwylde Farm and back to Moor Mill for a welcome drink in the garden and were amused by the antics of the numerous new duck families. Carol H
