Boxing Day 2009: Hertswood
Unfortunately Bryan was ill on the day so Pat and Ray took charge of the map and mulled wine on his behalf. 14 hardy souls braved the arctic conditions for a seven-mile walk around Hertswood. We began by slithering up an icy path from Sandridge via Pounds Farm to Langley Wood, where Mike F auditioned for a part in Dancing on Ice (sadly not captured on camera). We then trudged on through partially melted ice and snow and then through mud to reach Nomansland Common and our warming glass of mulled wine with mince pies (pictured left).
Throughout we searched for a sight of the ten thousand newly planted trees, but in vain. We obviously need advice on where to look next time. We completed the walk without mishap but with plenty of muddy clothes. Pat
