Boxing Day 2010

Sun and snow make for a perfect Boxing day outing
It was minus 6.5 degrees when we left the house to drive to Aldenham, and not unsurprisingly only slightly warmer in Aldenham. Aldenham was looking archetypally Christmassy, with everything (including the road) being white. 12 of us met and had an excellent post-Christmas Day walk along mud-free, clear and crunchy paths.
There were many excellent views on such a clear crisp day, but the strangest was, maybe, a group of farm cats sitting in the sun under a sign on a barn saying 'The Old Dairy'.
About three-quarters of the way round, our leaders, stopped and served up mince pies and mulled wine which, thanks to a mixture of excellent planning and technology, were still warm! what a treat! A small amount of spilled mulled wine looked slightly eerie on the snow though.
The silence of the snow was a strange match for the ever-present hum of the M1 and A41 in the distance.
Around lunchtime we were returned to Aldenham Church, to make our way back to less picturesque parts. A memorable morning.
